Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 July 2026.

The short version. Everything you write in Nowadays (your check-ins, notes, and the patterns they form) is encrypted and stays on your device. We can't read it. The only things that reach our servers are what's needed to sign you in and, if you turn it on, an encrypted backup that only you hold the key to.

Nowadays ("Nowadays", "we", "us", or "our") makes a private relationship-reflection app. This policy explains what information the app handles, what reaches us, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@nowadays.love.

1. What stays on your device

Your journal is yours. The following never leaves your phone in a form we can read:

This data is encrypted at rest on your device and is not transmitted to us. If you delete the app without setting up backup, this data is gone. We never had a copy.

2. Information we receive

Account sign-in

Nowadays requires an account so your access can be restored on a new device. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store a unique identifier for you and your email address. We use these only to authenticate you and to associate any encrypted backup with your account. If you use Sign in with Apple's "Hide My Email" relay, we only ever see the relay address.

Encrypted backup (optional)

If you enable backup (part of the paid tier), we store an encrypted copy of your entries so you can restore them on a new phone. It is encrypted with a key derived from a recovery phrase that never leaves your device. We store only ciphertext; we cannot decrypt or read your entries, and if you lose your recovery phrase, neither can we.

Technical logs

Our servers keep standard, short-lived logs (such as IP address and request timestamps) to keep the service secure and prevent abuse. These are not linked to the contents of your journal.

3. Payments and subscriptions

Subscriptions to Nowadays More are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status; it receives a pseudonymous app-user identifier and your purchase and entitlement information from Apple so the app knows whether your subscription is active.

4. What we don't do

5. Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to run the service: Apple and Google (sign-in), Apple (payments and notification delivery), RevenueCat (subscription management), and DigitalOcean (server hosting). Each processes only the limited information described above on our behalf.

6. Your rights and choices

7. Children

Nowadays is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Security

We protect information in transit with TLS and at rest with encryption, and we designed the app so the most sensitive data never reaches us in readable form. No system is perfectly secure, but we've built Nowadays to minimize what could ever be exposed.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
